A Peek at My New Thriller Novel

Psychological thriller-A woman undeterred

I have just realized that over the years I have not done enough to keep my readers abreast of what has been going on in my writing life. In fact, I have limited my communication with my readers to just book launches. I want to tender an unreserved apology to those who think I should keep the door of communication open—pushing out information from the conception of a story idea to its birth into a book. Also, let me assure you that I am not a verbose person, even though I write in hundreds of thousands of words and would like to inherit my grandpa’s Olympia typewriter.

A psychological thrillerI think we need to talk about why I’m wasting your time. “All right, Obinna, what is this book about?”

I would take no offense if you demand an answer, although I have one question for stay-at-home moms. Why would a woman who seems to have married a wealthy banker on who she depends for all her needs—a luxurious home where she’s kept happy by modern gadgets, have free money in the bank to spend at will, a car for use at any time—suddenly quit her marriage?

Indeed, I have no idea, since what goes on in a woman’s world is not my cup of tea. However, because of the decision I reached after I married my beautiful, hardworking wife, I can step in and investigate to offer help as a compassionate gentleman. You see, Adaobi learned that nothing was worth having if all that gave her happiness was lost.

Whether she wanted happiness or not, here’s something that I’m sure she forgot: starting over as a single woman in a male-dominated world, while building a new life and ensuring her son’s happiness, won’t be easy.

I think the men of this world should become more generous with employment for women in the labor market, and help some of them fulfill their dreams. They might as well need all the motivation to become detectives, identifying serial killers unrestrained.

As a reader and a writer, my work is to tell stories at novel length. Today, I let you into the life of Adaobi, and I consider her a role model for most struggling submissive married women who are in crisis and seeking to transform into independent women.

This story will make you care, laugh, and think. If it’s a book you have time for, then here’s the synopsis of A Woman Undeterred:

Synopsis:

Like many submissive wives in Port Harcourt, Adaobi desires more than just staying at home. She wants to earn money, gain independence, and find happiness. The main issue lies with Adaobi’s wealthy husband, Emeka. She realizes that being dependent on him will prevent her from achieving her dreams, so she leaves her marriage.

Suddenly single, she’s gone through rough times: men in positions of authority who take advantage of vulnerable single mothers, and worst of all, a friend throws her out of her house. But then, she secures a paid job.

It’s the ideal job—the perfect life… But once Adaobi has settled down to work, nothing goes as expected.

Awakened by a scream, she discovers something strange at her workplace. Someone has brutally murdered a young boy—the latest victim in a series of murders. Then Adaobi hears strange noises from downstairs—someone sneaks into the house, and she suspects her boss is hiding a secret.

As she gathers the clues, she must use her intelligence to identify the suspect, as time is running out before the killer strikes again.

  1. I liked it! I was ready to read more! I love her determination and was saddened for her that her husband didn’t see that. He wanted a housewife and while she was okay with that, she was yearning to learn more about who she is as Adaobi; not the wife, mother, sister, etc. But as Adaobi

This is only one chapter?! I love it!

  2. Loved this!

The story follows a woman after leaving what was, from outward appearances, a happy marriage with a wealthy man. Adaobi finds herself a job to gain independence, and pursue a life where she can fulfill her own dreams. Things don’t quite go according to plan though … secrets, lies, murder.

Is her husband coming after her? Does he want revenge for humiliating and betraying him? Or is her new boss not who she thought he was? Or has she met someone along the way who has a dark side?

The first chapter definitely had me intrigued and left me wanting to know more. It was quite a sad first chapter, and Obinna’s poetic use of language really tugs at the heartstrings – your heart breaks for Adaobi as she confronts her husband about her dreams and he just doesn’t understand why she’d ever want any more than she already has. She is unseen. I admired her strength to speak up and I feel this strength will grow throughout the book as she faces whatever challenges and evil are coming her way.

I’m very much looking forward to reading the rest of the book upon its release. I’m definitely going to be cheering for Adaobi!

I recommend giving the first chapter a go!
